<image:title>Home - about us</image:title>
<image:caption>Why Not Workshop is an educational nonprofit which supports students who have difficulty thriving in a traditional school environment. Research shows that trauma not only impacts a child’s development within the classroom, but could also impact the trajectory of a child’s future. This is why it is our team’s goal to provide primary and supplemental educational services in a nontraditional setting. Students can co-create content instruction through hands-on, real-world, problem-based experiences. Students will have the opportunity to engage in physical activity that improves the connection between the brain and the body before they experience academic demands. At the same time, we can facilitate developmentally appropriate reading, writing, and math experiences. Addressing the needs of students in a low-risk environment using non-threatening methods can create happier, more productive and successful children. Working together, we can help create neighborhoods, communities, and a world in which every child can thrive.</image:caption>

<image:title>About us - Why Our Workshop?</image:title>
<image:caption>It’s the 21st century. It’s time we shift the paradigm. Students struggle in the traditional classroom for different reasons. Some students cannot afford typical supplemental educational services, private school, or other enrichment programs. Other students are impacted by trauma that affects their growth and development both inside and outside of the classroom. This is why it is our team’s goal to be a support system for young people by educating children in a way that’s optimal for living, working, and creating their own adventures successfully in the future that’s constantly changing. Working together, we can help create programs, communities, and a world in which every child can thrive. Check out our services below to learn more about how we can be a positive influnce in the life of a child you know.</image:caption>

<image:title>About us - Step 1.</image:title>
<image:caption>Address active trauma & disregulaton WNW provides an alternative education experience for children who do not thrive in the traditional classroom. We address behavioral regulation needs first then begin placing academic demands as students begin to self-regulate. Instead of wasting instructional time by putting students in in-school suspension or out of school suspension repeatedly, we can work to discover the source of the behavior and then use strategies to empower a child to eventually self regulate. Systems like Collaborative and Proactive Solutions and Motivational Interviewing can be effective tools to begin this process.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6147580345cef54e6aababda/262bf664-94fa-41bb-99ce-5c9c721b2763/AdobeStock_287556992_Preview.jpeg</image:loc>
<image:title>About us - Step 2.</image:title>
<image:caption>Address Executive Functioning The brain’s center for executive functioning is not fully developed until the mid 20s, yet we put demands on children that require integrating several of these functions at once to regulate their behavior. Reading comprehension and other academic tasks then demand more of those executive skills. Brain/body integration tools like Bal-A-Vis-X, Occupational Therapy with a pediatric OT, and other activities will also be used to develop the parts of the brain that are struggling to come online because of trauma or their young age. These tools develop executive functioning which drives behavior regulation, impulsivity, decision making, cognitive flexibility and so much more, making academic demands easier to tolerate.</image:caption>

<image:title>About us - Step 3.</image:title>
<image:caption>Academic Endeavors WNW uses a constructivist approach to students’ learning. Children will explore what interests them through hands-on, real world experiences facilitated by creative, adventurous staff. Math, Science, Social Studies, and Literacy curriculum can be built around those interests. Since literacy is the cornerstone of all learning, a targeted balanced approach will ensure appropriate instruction and intervention is provided in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and writing.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Services - Braniacs</image:title>
<image:caption>PK-2, 3-5, 6-8, highschool Brainiac groups will do serious brain work but it’s going to look like goofy fun. Most of the time. Many of these activities take training and practice to be effective. During the training period, participants will be closely monitored to gauge their frustration threshold. If it stops being fun, it stops being meaningful. Each session, students will rotate through different activities. BalAVisX will get the body moving to facilitate executive function development. If the brain is not getting the sensory input it needs from the body, attending to a task, regulating behavior, and learning can be more difficult. Brain training exercises, fine motor executive function games and puzzles, mindfulness games will help children develop metacognition, the ability to collaborate, and the ability to work independently. Breathing & mindfulness exercises which may include making art with found objects from nature, creative writing, making sensory jars, planting seedlings, and other sensory experiences will help to center and ground students helping them to get ready to engage in other tasks.</image:caption>
